Adidas Half Marathon at Silverstone on 14th March

Steve Hanson from Scarborough Whites will be running the Adidas Half Marathon at Silverstone on 14th March in aid of Candlelighters and to raise awareness of www.leedsfansremembrance.com.

The event is quite high profile and is used as a warm up for the London Marathon due to take place in April.

Leeds Fans Remembrance - Letter to local MP

As you may be aware the trial is still ongoing in Turkey and we are not getting any nearer to a final court date. We have been chasing the foreign office and various MP’s but nobody is getting involved so we are now writing to all our local MP’s.

Last week i tried to start an E-Petition on the government website asking them to intervene in the case but i got an email rejecting this saying we needed to take this to the foreign office. I checked other petitions and found one for another foreign case so asked what was the difference in them but have had no response.

I have now wrote to my local MP’s on the site

Dear Keith Parker, Keith Wakefield and James Lewis,

I am the brother of Chris Loftus who was murdered in Turkey in April 2000 when Leeds United played against Galatasaray.

The case is still ongoing over in Turkey and we don’t seem to be getting any information back from the foreign office and have been refused access to the evidence by West Yorkshire police. We have told them this is against the freedom of information act but they have said that this could cause an international incident. I don’t understand why telling the truth could cause an international incident.

We have continually tried to get a conclusion to this trial but nobody seems to want to get involved. As you can imagine this trial is taking a great toll on the friends of family of all involved and we just want to be able to move on with our lives.

We have to live this everyday and we are continually getting knock back after knock back while the main person in the case is free and has been since 2004.

At the inquest West Yorkshire police said on oath that we had done nothing to provoke this , but their main form of defence was that we had abused woman and done things to their flag which was all lies. None of this evidence has ever been submitted to the authorities in Turkey so we don’t know if anyone is aware of this.

I appreciate you cant change Turkish law but surely you can apply some pressure to their government.

I recently tried to submit an e-petition on the government website but this was also rejected.

I would appreciate any help or support you could give us in this matter.

On the 5th April it will be the 10th Anniversary of their deaths and we have been organising charity events in their memory and all the money raised will be donated to candle lighters children’s cancer charity.

Race Night - West Leeds Railway Club. Sunday 21st Feb 2010

If you have never seen this before various horse races are played on the big screen and you place small bets on the races to win cash prizes. The profits of this day will be donated to Candle Lighters charity.

Elland Road - Gala evening ticket update Sat 3rd April

On the 3rd April 2010 we will be holding a final gala evening at the Elland Road Banquet suite for 550 people. The cost for this will be £50 per person and will include a 3 course meal , comedian , disco and other entertainment.

We aim to have celebrities from the music industry as well as sportsmen from around the Yorkshire region.

A full brochure of this event including auction and prizes will be added to this site in the coming weeks.

In the first instance we will only be offering the tickets to all those people who have taken part in any of the events. On Monday 15th Feb we will allow everyone else to register their interest.

If you have taken part in any event then please fill in the form below stating which event you took part in and the number of tickets you require.

We aim to sell tables of 10 at a cost of £500 , however there will be a limited number of places so we would appreciate it if you could consider friends and family who have also taken part in these events and book as a group.

Due to a massive volume of interest this event has already had we have made the decision to initially show our thanks for those that have dedicated their time and effort throughout the year at these events by giving them first refusal for tickets.

Leeds Fans Remembrance - 6 month update

What an encouraging 6th months since Leeds Fans Remembrance was formed. The effort and generous contributions by friends+ family of Chris and Kev and the extended Leeds United family has been truly amazing. From children donating their pocket money to businessmen donating large sums of money it has been a real team effort.

Even with the difficult economical climate,companies have helped us with by providing banners, printing , T- shirts, hire of equipment, food, making of our flag+ Bibs, The success of each individual event was down to a collective team effort from sponsors, participants, marshals and everybody who turned up and helped. We would also like to thank everybody personally who individually or collectively have organised fundraising events with out the help of LFR and have then sent us cheques to add towards our total that we will be giving to Candlelighters.

As we have all found out getting sponsors is easy, collecting the money in, is a different matter. We would appreciate if anyone who has any uncollected sponsors to zealously chase outstanding money.

If all the outstanding sponsor money is collected for the Three Peaks and the Bike Ride then we hopefully should have raised £50,000 so far, which is absolutely fantastic.

Once again, many thanks to every one who has helped towards the fundraising. We know there are lots of you who do not want any thanks for your time and effort but it has not gone unnoticed. So lets hope your efforts between now and April can be mirrored by our beloved football team.

Leeds Fans Remembrance - Fancy Dress Sat 19th Dec

I would like to thank everyone who took part in the fancy dress event on Saturday at the Southampton game. It was one of the funniest days i have had for a long time and we managed to collect plenty of money which we are still counting.
